I had many hilarious little adventures over Christmas break, so I thought I would just post my top ten. I hope you think it's funny, too!
1) Before leaving L.A. to go back to San Mateo, Quentin's injured passenger-side headlight was given a fresh coat of duct-tape to keep it intact for the drive back. However, suddenly, on I-5, Quentin's headlight began to flap and flail all over the place! Cindy and I had to stop and buy duct tape in Gorman as well as triple duct-tape the sucker before driving the rest of the way back to the Bay Area. G-h-e-t-t-o.
2) Kim and I exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve. When we handed each other our gifts, we immediately noticed that the wrapped gifts were exactly the same shape, size, and weight. At that instant, we knew we each got each other the same thing! I got Kim the "Dog" brand mugs with cocoa and she got me "Scrabble" brand mugs with cocoa. It was such a geeky, funny moment. What can I say -- great minds think alike!
3) I made a trip to Ikea with Karen. We gave ourselves an hour and a half to browse so we wouldn't waste too much time there. We scanned the entire store, including the floor models, and had several potential items to purchase. However, upon reassessing and being frugal, we decided to buy only a $1 squee-gee and a $1 toilet bowl cleaner. We got to the checkout station, though, saw the long line, and dumped both things and left Ikea altogether! After all that time, the only thing we actually bought was Ikea hot dogs and fro-yo.
4) At Geets' pad in SF, Vidya came over and pretended to speak with a British accent behind the mask of a former Korean leader. Maybe you just had to be there.
5) Perhaps my most relaxing evening in the Bay Area, I spent an entire evening (five hours!) playing tetris with Mel and Naomi, almost non-stop at Mel's place. We finally had to quit after our eyes starting glazing over and blurring. When I play too much tetris, I start to dream about it. It's kinda scary. It reminds me of playing Super Mario Brothers and dreaming about fluting to different worlds.
6) I visited Katie before coming back to LA in San Diego. We ended up driving around, taking funny pictures, and visiting multiple Starbucks -- all while accidentally wearing the same outfit! We both had on the same color pink long sleeved shirt, carried a white shopping bag, and had a hot Starbucks in our hand with a straw. The glaring similarity in our looks (sarcasm intended) must have made onlookers suspect we were twins.
7) While still in San Mateo, I was (way) too excited to check out (no pun intended) the new downtown San Mateo library. I must say, I giddily waited in line to get a new library card!
8) One day, my mom, my sister, and I were going somewhere and my sister hadn't changed out of her pajamas (comfy warmups and a sweatshirt). I, however, had showered and gotten dressed. My sister made a comment that she looked like a total slob, and my mom said "Yeah, Julie." Karen and I both started cracking up. I didn't think my outfit was
that bad!
9) Salsa aerobics -- really, the name says it all. I took a salsa aerobics class at the YMCA with Karen one evening. The class was led by a forty-ish Asian man who kept telling us to "cha cha cha" with our hips and do the "meringue" while doing some rather hilarious hand motions like "washing your stomach" and "waving goodbye to the sailors on deck."
10) To round out my Christmas break, while driving back to SoCal, Quentin's thrice duct-taped right blinker suddenly went from injured to totally spastic on I-5. His blinker now ticks extra fast instead of its normal pace. I seriously look like one of those drivers you should avoid on the road. Sad!
